Kenneth Yoon Named One of Daily Journal's Top 75 Labor and Employment Lawyers
Yoon Law is pleased to announce that Founder and Principal Kenneth H. Yoon have been selected as one of the Daily Journal’s 2019 Top Labor & Employment Lawyers. He was previously profiled in the Journal’s Top 75 Labor and Employment Lawyers in 2014.
Kenneth Yoon has been fighting for plaintiffs’ rights in various class action lawsuits for over 20 years. The Daily Journal recognized two of his accomplishments this year: securing a $6 million verdict against Wal-Mart, and obtaining a published appellate decision protecting beer delivery drivers.
Mr. Yoon served as lead trial counsel representing a class of 5,000 employees alleging Wal-Mart had failed to provide off-duty, uninterrupted 30-minute meal breaks. Mr. Yoon argued to the jury that Wal-mart’s mandatory off-the-clock security check impeded or discouraged employees from leaving the facility for lunch. The jury agreed and returned a unanimous verdict in favor of the class in April.
Mr. Yoon also advocated for beer delivery drivers in a case alleging several wage and hour violations against a beverage distributor, Fresno Beverage Company, Inc. The company tried to force the case to arbitration, which would have barred the plaintiff in the case from representing other employees and proceeding in court as a class action. Mr. Yoon argued before the appellate court that federal law does not require arbitration for transportation workers who did not cross state lines. The California Court of Appeal affirmed the trial court’s decision, and the California Supreme Court declined to take the case.
